high pitched sound from engine
You know...I realized I think I know what everyone is referring to with this "intake whistle".
Are you talking about the high-pitched sound, usually around 2-4K rpm when you open the throttle wider, kinda sounds like a cricket?
If so, then I'm familiar with that, and this is definitely a different sound.

Check your IAC and your vacuum lines, make sure everything is properly connected, pull off the IAC make sure the rubber gaskets are in good shape and not damaged.
Since you've had your car for a while I think you know what noises are normal and which aren't.
It could be a air leak making a high pitched noise.

Yeah, it is louder with the lid off, actually. So I guess this is "intake whistle", for some reason. I just can't figure out why it would start all of a sudden (with a stock intake no less), or if it has something to do with the new IAC unit. I've owned the car for many years and have never heard it before.
(also - I noticed the new air filter is a green one, I could have sworn the last one I had wasn't green. Perhaps it's for an AP2 or something, and is just barely different enough to cause a whistle?)
