I'm ascribing to the lead pencil dyno theory :-)

But seriously, asking someone to believe that simply changing the mufflers will net 10 hp is reaching. However, to further ask that we believe replacing the piping from cat to mufflers is worth an _additional_ 15-20 hp is just ludicrous.

The cat is typically as big a source of restriction as the muffler systems.

By going with a twin muffler system, Honda has gotten quiet operation without undue compromise of flow (muffler volume being key, if you don't have volume, then you must have restriction).

Hell, I can't think of any turbo cars (which want zero restriction after the turbo) picking up that much power from a cat back, and I'm including cars like the Skyline and Supra Turbo in that category.

I believe there is power to be found in cat back exhaust, maybe as much as 10-12 for a loud, free flowing race system, but 30? No.

Just think, some poor soul is probably running around saying "my exhaust makes 30 hp" and since it sounds loud, it must be true.

I met him last weekend

First thing he said was "30 extra horses". He also had semi slicks on.

But here's a video of him (white S) coming onto the straight with a silver S on his tail.

You'd expect that being ahead, and having 30 (or even 10) extra Hp he'd pull ahead.

Its hard to tell without seeing the corner exit, but I think we can safely say he wasn't making 30 hp more than the silver car.

well I have emailed hitech with a Please explain, and have not heard back yet

hmm I wonder if they dynoed the car in different gears (which would explain how you get the power difference)

Excellent point. I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a stunt like that. I don't think that they are a "reputable company" either, to be honest. If anything they have a reputation for unsubstantiated claims. Mind you, I did see an independent test of one of their exhausts vs the competition on a WRX, and they came out OK. In that case power was directly proportional to noise, as you'd expect on a turbo car.

PS: 2nd gear at last
