Agreed, but it's power and not just speed we are talking about here. I don't know, for example, too many leafblowers that would get a bowling ball up to 200MPH.

Not to add insult to injury but that is a Ford engine not a BMW like the original post states. Doesn't really matter though. But could you honestly look your friends in the face and tell them that you hooked a leaf blower up to your car.

Crazy, man!

I'd love to hear how this works if anyone has the guts to put it on his car. I don't have that kind of bravery.

HwangTKD:

I assumed it was a BMW because I found it on the BMW E46 Forum at:

http://www.e46forums.com/phorum/list.php?f=1

I can't remember what the exact post was...However, it looks legit to me. I think that it would be a lot harder to Photoshop it than to actually stick a blower on your car, a leaf blower, that is!

This is the same theory behind the "Roarinc" intake system. There is a thread from Roarinc. on this board. Search it out and then go to their website and you'll see what I mean. On their test BMW cars, they've reported something like 25-30 HP gain. They are working on a system for the S2000 at this very moment. This leaf blower idea is not that far fetched.

I wouldn't discount anything simply because its not main stream . . . I would opt for gas powered though .

Does anyone remember the killer Chaparral 2J which had an ancillary engine of its own? http://www.ashcom.homestead.com/Elford2J.html

Would you have to tweak your computer to alter the fuel/air mixture, or would it be able to compensate on its own? 20-30hp for the price of a leaf blower is pretty appealling to me.

I think some of our more knowledgeable members (cdelena, Utahs2k, Schatten?) have commented on this before. I seem to recall the answer was that the computer will compensate to some extent when it sees more air, it'll dump in more fuel. That's how come the S/Ced cars can operate without new computer although they can run more efficiently with the vafc. Those cars also need an upgraded fuel pump to help with dumping more fuel in but the leaf blower thing is not going to put so much air in that the fuel system can't keep up. Roarinc also mention that for our car, it's yet to be seen if the leaf blower thing will actually produce significant gains in HP but what it will do is maintain the HP you've got by keeping the cold air coming when under hot conditions. Keep track of that thread. News is coming in all the time. That system will be sold through Ben @ Bullitproof. Cost: as yet unknown.

Yep, it's a leaf blower. My guess is that after about 7000 rpm the engine is actually powering the "turbo". If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't."
