Thumbs up Honda wants to re-machine the head...?

So I brought in my car to the dealership 2 days ago because there was a huge oil leak 2-3 weeks ago (hasn't dripped since)

Today they told me the leak was caused because the head gasket is damaged.

They said they will be putting a new head gasket in AND that they have to ''re-machine'' the head of the engine. That ''machining'' process is going to take them about 2 days to complete.

Pardon my ignorance but can someone explain to me what the heck is involved in machining the S2000's head and is it common when a new head gasket is put in?

thanks!

Oh and when I asked the service advisor what caused all of this she told me it's probably my driving habits but she's going to mark it as part failure anyways so I won't have to pay anything.

Not a mech but can't imagine what kind of "driving habit" she was reffering to.
The good news is that with the shaved head, compression will increase a little and you'll probably gain a couple ponies.

Well I redline my car a lot and drive in VTEC often but that's what the S2000 is made for...

Nope it's part of the 5 year powertrain warranty

thank you dealer then, our local dealer are total worthless rubbish pile when comes to mfg warranty.

i wouldn't buy extened warranty if you plan to modify your cupholder, i only wish i knew ahead of time

to the op: the machine process might indicate a warppage in the head, it's in the machine shop to get it down and even again.

No actually your 3 year 36 000 mile warranty is bumper-to-bumper. You still get a 5 year warranty that covers your engine and transmission-differential.

My S2000 was bought in 2003 so the engine-tranny warranty ends in 2008. And since the head gasket is part of the engine, they have to cover it under warranty.
