Nope, a marine biologist. I guess all those years of adjusting valves every 3k miles on my '68 Type I and '69 Type III VWs is paying off.

I like the direct-measure approach, and from the look of it, the special tools indirectly determine the clearance with a ratchet mechanism. It would be interesting to hear from someone that uses one to compare the indirect measure outcome with an actual feeler guage measurement to see what the variation is.
