How bad did I F-up my clutch?
This morning i was going up a steep driveway and since i have a front lip i didnt wanna start going up to fast and risk scraping. Being the torque monster that the s2000 is, i bogged out going up and instead of just rolling back and trying over again i attempted to start moving by holding up the ebrake while slowly letting out the clutch. The revs were up to 3-4 grand and i still didnt feel the car fighting the ebrake yet. Whats that smell? What the hell is all that smoke? Yea my dumbass was burning the clutch. I think I was at 3-4 grand for maybe 2-3 seconds. How much damage do you guys think i did? Am i being a pussy or is there reason for concern? There is about 28k mi on the clutch as of now.

How did it work once continued to drive down the road? Did it slip anymore on starts/speedup. Maybe you just glazed it and it will be back to normal if possible. I had to replace mine at about 22k, although I did lots of hard shifts and starts.

If that's the worst you've done, you should be okay. If you noticed a pronounced shudder or continued slippage after that - then you may have problems down the road - damage and driving habbit dependent, of course.
If you abuse and/or shift unskillfully, you can expect to replace the clutch in the somewhat near future.

Just took the car for a little spin. I don't know if i'm paranoid, but it seems like it may not be grabbing as hard. Didn't really feel any pronounced slip, but the smell is still there. I hope thats just residual and i wasn't doing any further damage. I did do a few high rpm shifts and it grabbed fine so hopefully all i did was shorten the clutch life a little. I never launch the car hard nor do i track it so this is probably the most abuse the car has ever gotten. Is there any telltale way to check if the clutch is slipping?

well if it smells for more than a week you must of burn the clutch pretty bad. i did this with mine, and the smell never went away. took it to a mechanic and swaped the clutch out. he told me that i burnt the clutch really bad. thats just from my experience.

Here is what I did. At a dragstrip I was backing into a space on a hill to park and the clutch slipped and smelled. I made it worse because later that night while running down the track, I reved to 6k, slowly slipped the clutch and prompty sat still while going through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. Complete clutch slippage. It stank for a week! The clutch has never really felt as good since than BUT I have driven another 10,000 miles with 20+ autoXs since than and it is still working. So, just take it easy, you may be able to wear down any hot spots with some moderate use.

thanks for the tip xviper! i'll try this method out next time. this is probably the first and last time i'll be happy someone called me a pussy! but yea you're right on that one. revving to 4-5 grand and letting out the clutch will definitely be a first for me.
