How do you transport an engine?
Here is my problem: I have a F20C longblock plus tranny comming to my friends house and I have no idea how to transport it to my mechanic. I have a pickup truck at my disposal, but I can't figure out a way to lift the whole assembly onto the bed. I know a cherry picker "could" work, but what comes with a rented cherry picker? In the helms manual (page 5-7), it shows a cherry picker with its hook latched onto a piece of metal that is then "bolted" onto the lifting points. Is this "piece of metal" with the bolt included with a cherry picker? I'm scared that once I rent the cherry picker, I won't have any way of bolting onto the engine and lifting it. Any ideas?

Hey, here's an idea. If you buy anything really big at Home Depot (at least in Memphis), they have trucks they will rent out to help you transport it home. I think the first 90 minutes or so is free. So buy yourself some 8' lengths of PVC pipe or somethign, and ask about truck rental. Even if you can't bring it back w/i the hour, the rental rate is VERY reasonable -- much cheaper than a Rent-a-car place.
seriously, transported me an engine already and it's no more than a three person lift it into the bed deal ...... get an old tire and some motorcycle tie-downs and you're good to go ...... seriously!!!!!!!!
I have transported engines myself. 3 -4 people should do it ( without breaking your back, some people may reply and say less but how trying to win the strong man competition
). The tranny part should be the most heaviest. Build a cradle out of wood and mettle brackets - Home depot cheap and you don't have to worry about harming the engine when you place it on the bed. Make sure you extend the wood to serve as a handle.
Definitely use ties to ensure that the engine doesn't move around.......
