Default how does the MAP sensor work

Like the title says,

how exactly does the MAP sensor work? its measuring vacum right? how much vacum can it measure if so? is the map sensor used when car is in idle?

how does the car get the right amount of fuel, i know that the TPS, map and the lambdas play togheter but how? and there is something called closed loop (pre programmed fuel amount at certain RPM right?)

am i right or wrong?

The MAP sensor is an engine load sensor. It measures manifold absolute pressure via a piezoelectric crystal or a ceramic capacitor. Under pressure the crystal/capacitor will generate a voltage which the computer can read and thus calculate the amount of pressure in the intake manifold. Higher load equals zero vacuum, or high pressure. No load equals high vacuum, or low pressure.

The S2000 does not use a lambda type fuel injection system. There is no fuel distributor.

The car determines the amount of fuel by calculating the readings from the TPS, MAP, ECT, O2S, CMP, etc. Basically, it calculates the rpm, engine load, temperature, air/fuel ratio and so on, to then calculate the duty cycle of the injectors.

And you have closed loop opposite. It is "open loop" which has the pre-programmed amount of fuel. The engine is in open loop on cold starts, when the engine is not yet up to operating temperature. In open loop, the computer ignores the ECT and O2S signals, and just dumps fuel in the engine. Only in closed loop does the PCM use the ECT and O2S signals.

This deserves to be in Technical. Moving.

(And I hope Alex is NOT joking this time. )
