Default Trans in neutral, engine moving wheels?

I had my car up on jackstands when installing my new axles. I started my car and had my trans in neutral. The rear wheels were spinning under power from the engine. I don't get it. Anyone know why?

There's some viscous coupling through the fluids in the drivetrain; nothing to worry about.
