Default How easy to "drop exhaust"?

I'm considering attempting to install a Curt trailer hitch on my 2005 s2000. The installation instructions say it requires "dropping the exhaust" by prying the exhaust pipe bracket off of its hanger. My question is how easy/difficult is this operation, and are there any precautions needed to be taken when lowering the exhaust pipes in this way? Are the exhaust pipe brackets easy/difficult to push back on to the hangers? For the first time I figure it is best to get advice from somebody that has "been there, done that". Thanks for any info!

it is very easy. there are 4 exhaust hangers on the rear muffles themselves. spray some wd40 and they should slide off like butter. if you are looking to drop the whole catback system there is one extra hanger above the resonator. wd40 is your best friend.

I don't know how far you need to drop it but I'd unhook the mid-pipe hanger, otherwise you may not get enough of a drop, then if you tried to force it, it may rip.

unbolt it after the catalytic converter or it'll be a struggle to get it off by yourself. With two people, its easier.

If its an old car, get the 2nd person because the bolts on the cat will likely be seized.

The hangers on the mufflers are a PITA. I'm sure it would be easier now that I've done it once.

Ditto on the WD-40

Either silicone or soap/water is a better choice that wd-40. The petroleum distillates in wd-40 tend to speed the breakdown of the rubber exhaust hangers. They're not going to melt in your hands or anything, but why use something that potentially shortens their useful life?
