Either silicone or soap/water is a better choice that wd-40. The petroleum distillates in wd-40 tend to speed the breakdown of the rubber exhaust hangers. They're not going to melt in your hands or anything, but why use something that potentially shortens their useful life?
+1 Do NOT use WD-40. It'll breakdown the rubber and cause it to deteriorate

For now to use with a bicycle rack. I also have an old sunfish sail boat that would easily tow.

trying to get the rubber off with no lube is enough to make you mash your head against the wall.

If you lube the hangers, they will come off 20X easier. just throwin that out there

you may need to take of the rear frame brace also. You can lower the exhaust enough to do your hitch work, it will pivot at the header where the spring bolts are. No need to unbolt anything.

What? NFW... Damn. I'll buy a set even if they're made of gold and priced that way!

I've swapped exhausts on my car like 4 times now. It gets easier after the first time, but not by much with the stock exhaust because it's all one piece. Reinstalling is easier than removing.
