Default How long do your tires last?

I just got my inspection and to my surprise my mechanic said i needed new rear tires! I have 10500 miles and I don't race or spin my tires though. I was just wondering if other members had tires that wear out this fast, especially because I don't drive aggresively. I'm a little upset.

the S02's have a treadwear rating of 140...thats going to be about 10-15K miles, and there have been posts about this before....

most users are getting right around 10-12K miles before replacing, and some even less, depending on driving conditions, habits, roads, contsruction, etc....

10,500 is not that uncommon!

Thats the price you pay to have a car like this!!

I've gone through rears very consistently at about 10-11k miles, regardless of what I've put on. I've used S02s and Potenza RE730s with exactly the same mileage even though the 730s had a significantly higher treadwear rating (320?). I'm on the new RE750s now (340) but may switch back to S02s to just make it easier. If they're not going to wear longer and the price difference isn't TOO great, I may as well go back to the OEMs...

Think my tires needed changing after around 12000 miles. I recommend Pirelli P7000s. Great tires and will make your ride even harder along with increase in some tracksion.

You may want to take a close look at your tires yourself to make sure that the guy inspecting your tires isn't a tad bit conservative. I realize that different people have different opinions on when tires need to be replaced, but some people just want to sell tires. You may want to read the comments on this thread, and view the pictures for comparison: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...threadid=128526

I'm not saying that 10,500 miles isn't enough miles for a set of tires, but if you're not an aggressive driver I would expect a few more miles.

In my opinion, if this car is not a daily driver and you don't plan on driving it in heavy rainfall, then you should wait until you see the wear bars. Keep in mind that your front tires are still good, which will keep your steering under control even under heavy rain conditions. Even if it is your daily driver, keeping the acceleration conservative in the rain will allow you to keep driving the car until you see the wear bars. This is up to your discretion, of course.

RxRx7: Please let us know what your tires actually look like compared to Xviper's in the attached thread.
