How much oil does the oil filter hold and does oil filter stay fully filled once the car is off?

 

I tend to fill my filter prior to installation but you can't really fill it 100% as it will leak when you go to install it. I would estimate that it holds approx. 1/2 quart, maybe a tad bit more once it is in operation on the vehicle. The filter sits horizontally and anti-drain back valves are rarely 100% sealed, so my best guess is that it doesn't stay completely filled when the engine is off, but probably a good portion of the oil remains.

 

On my 03.

Engine, without filter..........4.8 quarts
Engine, with filter..........5.1 quarts

So about 1/3 qt.I'm sure it varies some on the AP 2.
