Do not remove your battery cable to reset the ECU. Remove the no. 25 "backup" fuse (7.5 amp) from the cabin fusebox for 60 seconds. You will not need your radio code using this method.

i have disconected my battery before and when i put it back in the radio still worked without having to put a code in. so if i pulled the fuse out would this make it ask me for a code when i put it back?

How long was the battery cable disconnected? The radio can sometimes retain its memory for a couple (to a few) minutes. No, the BACK UP fuse removal is the method of choice to reset the ECU WITHOUT losing the radio code.

ps. Why are your resetting? It's not because you have a CEL, is it?

If just anybody knew this, our radios wouldn't be much of an anti-theft thing, would it?

You don't "have to". Given a few driving cycles, the ECU will learn new stuff like that on its own. Resetting it will only start the process sooner.
