Default How to stake axle nut?

I have the creaking/popping noise coming from my rear. I picked up a couple of axle nuts today and plan on changing them out to see if that is indeed the problem.

Couple questions..

1) Are there any special tools to unstake/stake?

2) What type of grease are you using? Can I use the Shin-Itsu?

Thanks

I would personally use a whit lithium grease or something hightemp/water resistant on there.

to stake, I use a chisel and a hammer...you just want punch the metal lip into the appropriate area of the axle.

Agree with people above. Hammer and screwdriver works okay. You do need to fold the lip back on the old nut before trying to unscrew them.

Axle nut is 36mm and don't forget to torque to 220ft*lbs (increased from the original spec 180ft*lbs).

Generally the driver's nut is the one that comes loose. The passenger side tightens up when launching....

And don't use silicone grease (Shin Etsu).
