So I guess it's not running over a puddle or going through flooded area but rain collecting in the filter area from water dripping through hood/headlight opening.

No compression in one cylinder, nothing is fixed, then it's purring like a kitten!

What's wrong with this picture?

Is it possible to have a valve not fully close, and then go back to operating properly?

If it was turning over the whole time, it probably started on Monday because the plugs and engine dried out, but the compression loss/return doesn't make sense to me.

Can anyone figure out what happened?

-Pete

wet plugs? I don't understand how you can have no compression and then the car runs fine? strange.

EDIT** glad you don't need a new motor BTW

I've seen a valve stick open before, but it was on an old Ford pushrod engine in my father's boat. We were able to get it going again, but it was always problematic. That engine was in pretty bad shape, he pulled the head and had new valves within six months. In other words, it didn't magically 'fix' itself just because it unstuck one day. Someting causes the valve to stick (is the valve slightly bent/dinged?) and this may not be the last you see of it.
