Default I Can't Redline! HELP!

Hey guys...

As of late, my car has been struggling to reach Redline.

If I drive the car in first gear, it seems to reach redline ok, second gear is a bit more difficult, third gear the car starts to give up at about 8600 RPM's and they don't climb any longer if I try to stay on the pedal.

I figured that it may have been the spark plugs so I replaced them earlier this evening and reset the ecu. The car seems to be less sluggish but the Rev issues are still there.

Does anybody have any idea what can be wrog?

btw,

I have a cel with my secondary 02 sensor but I doubt that can be causing the issue.

Please help!

the 00-01 ecu's have a rich map, and the second o2 being bad might be even more richer fuel mixture so its possible.

That's weird.

Can you redline with the car in neutral?

If it gets harder to redline as the gears (thus, speed of car) increase, then I'm going to go ahead and guess that it has nothing to do with your spark plugs / engine.

Here's a thought: go ahead and check your emergency brake line/level/adjustment, brake pads, rotors for any sign of uneven or unusual wear/tear, something out of the ordinary. After you do this 1st-2nd-3rd gear test for a few times, pull over and sniff around your wheels, see if any of them smell significantly different than the others, or if you have a really bad brake pad odor. I'm going to go ahead and guess that something is "braking" you.

BTW, out of curiosity, here's a second angle: any exhaust/header modifications? any recent change in the exhaust tone? (much louder than before perhaps?)

on that topic, any recently added new modifications at all?

Is the car warmed up? Coolant temp gauge at 3 bars?

Could be a restriction in the catalytic converter.

Or restriction in muffler.

Also check your oil level.

Check the MAP sensor, that is usually the cause of what you describe. Some just whack it but removing and cleaning the connector is probably the right fix.

Thanks guys, I will go ahead and check all of the things that you guys mentioned.

I can rev to red line but I can't reach it under load. The car is always warmed up and at three bars.

I don't really recall this happening until after thie 02 sensor issue but I may be wrong.

I will check my oil and whack the map sensor again and check for any unusual smells with the brakes and get back to you all.

Thanks again!
