When performing the MAP whack should I also reset the ecu?

What is the 8/80 anyway? Can you elaborate?

Was the CEL actually flashing/blinking?

 

No flashing CEL and yes, prior to today, the MAP sensor did have the zip tie. I removed it today to give it the WHACK!

 

No need to reset ECU. 8/80 is the length of the warranty... 8 years or 80,000 miles.

For those of you who believed that my car was running rich and that the issue was with my O2 sensor and catalytic converter you were right.

I was doing some thinking... The engine will make adjustments based upon information collected by the O2 sensor. When you have a faulty O2, the ecu is not receiving correct information and in my case, the information or lack thereof that the ecu was receiving was causing the ecu to add increased amounts of fuel. This explains why I was unable to reach redline and had decreased power output.

My catalytic converter was replaced by Honda under warranty and the O2 sensor I ordered prior to contacting Honda.

Now that I have the car back, it feels brand new! It is running very very well. I can't believe how much I was missing!

I learned that a car that is running too rich has a huge and noticeable impact on performance.

Too bad that I replaced my sparkplugs, oil, and performed Map whacks to try and diagnose what should have been obvious by my illuminated check engine light. Since these are all for the good, I really shouldn't complain especially with how great the car now performs.
