Default I let the guy put 5w30 in my MY02

So I let the mechanic at the oil shop I was just at put 5w30 Mobile 1 in my s2000. He said his buddy runs it and its fine. But now I'm not so sure. If the temp around here will be 90 this weekend, should I swap this stuff out or am I ok??

Thanks

Hey, hey, hey....

I was TOTALLY kidding. I use Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic. I'm not an oil expert, but the 5 is the viscosity at cold start-up. I prefer that to 10W-30 because it's a bit thinner at start-up and most engine wear occurs during start-up. The 30 is the viscosity at full warmed up temperatures.

To my knowledge, even Honda recommends 5W-30 in the owner's manual.

Not sure what you're worried about. I've started the motor as cold as 30F here in Dallas and done 30 minute lapping sessions on a hot day at a local roadcourse with my oil with ZERO oil burn and zero issues.

QUIKAG, your knowledge is wrong. Our owners manual recommends 10W- 30 or 5W-40. You might want to read it prior to giving advise in this forum.

Mannix16, I would follow the owners manual next time.

ha, I was almost out the door to get it changed again. Well from what I'm hearing:

I'll be fine with the 5w30 Mobile 1. Although we should always follow the recomendations of the engineers who built the car.

Don't swap it out...you will be fine with 5w-30 in there...just don't put it in there next time...or if you like it...go ahead

I put 5w30 Mobile 1 in my car and I live in Florida where it's over 90 degrees everyday of the summer. My car was fine. I am though getting 10w30 now just because I'm getting my turbo installed

From what I gather (depending on your driving style) sync oil should be good for between 8-10k (easy driving, no track or autox)

5-6k if you drive hard consistantly.

and if you use dino, then 5-6k, less if you track.

Anyone else agree with this?

I don't. I change mine every 2000-3000 miles in the S no matter what... Our cars consume oil at a high rate depending on year and milage...
