Default I overreved my AP2!

So I was daydreaming really early in the morning on the way to my friend's house and was in 4th gear going about 85mph and I wasn't thinking, put it to 3rd gear but did not let off the clutch completely, so of course I notice the tach flash up to red. Now, I listen for valve noise and there seems to be a little bit more noise but I can't really tell as it's always been noisy compared to other cars. Also, I don't notice a difference in the way it drives, weird idling, or anything else. Just paranoid here...

Do you think I did damage to the engine here? What engine speed is 85+ mph in 3rd due to my stupid overrev? I can't take it to my S2k mechanic and it's my daily driver. What should I do for now? Can I granny drive it around, not to go over 4.5k anytime just to make sure?

Thanks!

that doesn't sound that bad, ap2 retainers can take a few hundred rpm's and not crack. whats the top speed in 3rd gear for an ap2?

3rd gear ends at about 80. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Hey just did some calculations. And you are safe!!! You revved the car to about 8700-8800. Plenty of guys on the board rev the car to 9k and use the ap1 ecu. The ap2 retainers can take about 9800. You are fine. I redline my car to about 8600 and I do usually bounce at 8700 but then again in geared and if I went 85 in third it wouldn't look good. Don't sweat it. But becareful.

Beauty of an ap2.

Ans2k calculates 8800. Even if you went to 9500, you are fine. no worries.

Exhaust valves will float at 10,700 and hit the pistons. AP2 retainers will crack beyond that. You are safe man, guaranteed.

no problem!!!! yea, you only went about 100 more than what i occasionally hit. good thing you weren't going 100 in fourth and shifted into third. then, your engine would be toast. but no need to worry and baby it, just have responsible fun with it.

a little off topic: but, what are you doing day dreaming going 85 in fourth to begin with? were you just cruising in fourth on the freeway?

Haha good question. I think I went down to 4th from 5th to pass... but who knows, my mind was elsewhere. After daily driving S2000's for 7 years this is the first time it happened to me. I'm still shaking my head over it!
