Default I think I found the problem (tranny popping out of gear)

In the last week my tranny popped out of sixth and fourth a couple times. Fearing the worst, I did my due diligence and googled the crap out of it, ending up buying new tranny fluid with intent to change it today. When I got under there, I discovered that the fill plug is....missing. So there's probably not much, in any fluid in there.

1. What kind of damage might I have done to the tranny?
2. Need to replace the plug/washer. Any idea what thread pitch it is? Manuals looks like it's 14mm diameter.

Thanks in advance.

Yikes. Fix that. Also, look at your motor and transmission mounts. They might be toast too

In the cases I am aware of the failure to stay in gear is an internal shaft problem and is fixed with a transmission repair. I would be surprised that a fluid change or external change would have much affect.

How about if there's only about a cup of tranny fluid? Cuz that's what came out when I drained it.

Never tore down an s2k trans, but a broken syncro spring would cause it to pop out of gear. A $5 part. But in your situation, i would be ready to replace all the bearings as well.

Running almost dry is bad. Depends also how much u drove on it empty. If I wer u I would refill oil and drive cautiously until u don't hear any weird noises. If anything u prob toasted some of the bearings. Iv done my trans.... is easy and cheap to do but labor intensive.
