Default Ignition cutting out

Ever since we did the Vortech install, I've experienced extremely sharp power cutouts at varying RPM's. It reminds me of stories I've heard about SR-71 engine unstarts, it's so violent. At first I was thinking my tach was way off and I was banging the rev limiter, but this morning on the way into work I saw it happen a couple times at 6500, and I can't believe it'd be THAT far off.

Any idea where to even begin troubleshooting something like this, without an o-scope and a dyno?

Fuel pump? Which one did you install with the SC?

You've got me there. I have no idea what brand it is. I bought this kit used from another listmember. He said it was a high flow pump. When I pulled my old fuel pump out to replace it, I discovered that the one I had was the exact same one I was putting in. Which was no surprise, as my car had a supercharger before it was sold to me, and the PO ripped it out and put the car back to stock (poorly) before selling it.

The power loss is extremely on/off, which makes me think it's electrical rather than fuel-related. It 'stutters', like something's killing the spark for a second and then re-enabling it. If the fuel pump was starving or even experiencing a momentary cutout, would you expect it to be that binary?

What'd you gap your plugs to? Because it sounds kind of like spark blow out.

At the recommendation of the guy who sold me the kit, I purchased these:

Amazon Amazon

They're pre-gapped and I didn't change them.

No CEL light, so I haven't tried to download anything.

Same supercharger as earlier? You know I'm no help in this area (other than handing you tools) so it's just curiosity. I assume you're in VTEC at that rpm and there have been threads here in the past few weeks regarding other cars exhibiting cut off just like this. Maybe solutions in those threads. The rev limiter cuts the fuel (I assume just turns off the injectors) and turns them back on when the rpm drops 300rpm. Does yours bounce back and forth in about a 300range like that?

Pre-gapped? I bet they weren't gapped to the right spec. Almost no plugs come from the factory gapped down to .022-.026.

Easily checked. I'll look this evening when I get home.

Chuck, yes. That's exactly what the symptom is like, although the rpm at which it occurs seems to move around somewhat. It's never occurred below Vtech, however. Incidentally, it happened the first time you and I got together after the SC install and did our little teenager roll-on test. You didn't think I let you win, did you?

I agree with blow out on the spark. They come pre gapped at .035 and they should be dropped down to at least .026.
