i feel for you...
This is 100% incorrect UNLESS the amount of the soft top and the labor that is used to install it is more then the amount that you have payed in insurance for that year! Lets say you payed $2000 for that year in insurance and the soft top installed is $3000, then your premium will rise. Now if its opposite such as $3000 for that year in insurance and $2000 for the soft top installed then your insurance will NOT rise. Also, one more thing to remember is if your a clean driver and you have not dealth with your insurance regarding claims your most likely not going to see an increase! My bestfriend is a insurance rep for Geico... Hope this helps!

This could be true, I should have mentioned that it could differ slightly from state to state regarding area and location, but for the most part insurance is pretty hard in New York, believe me I travel to the city everyday. I dont think your going to have any problems with this claim unless you fall under what I already stated!

It will only effect your rates if you have multiple incidences, and then only on your comprehensive, which is a pretty cheap part of the overall package compared to collision. Glass breakage is the way to go though.

Some clown ventilated the top of my wife's Cobra 'Stang right after she bought it, insurance covered it 100% because it was brand new. Total increase in premium was $0.00. However, insurance companies prorate convertible tops based on age, but cover glass 100% after the deductable. Go for a glass claim 1st.

Try taking the car to an auto trimmer. It might be a no brainer to stitch a new glass pane into you softtop. If you can get the orginal shape of the window you should be able to get a glazier to make one up for you.

This sort of work is a lot cheaper that you think.

I did this to my friend's car a long time ago. My car was blocked in (from some other friends that had parked behind me, so I asked my friend to borrow his car. I thought I was being cool guy and dropped his top. Little did I know he had a backpack in the area where the top folded back...and boom a window in a 100 pieces. They were able to order another piece of glass and sew it into the existing top. What sucks is about 2 weeks after I paid him for the repair he totalled the car in an accident and his insurance paid for the whole car.
