Info needed
Well i have an 02 on the way to my house. This will be my first S2000 so are there anythings that i need to look out for on these cars that like to go bad quick? The car has around 36,000 miles on it and i figure it will be needing replacement parts soon. Please tell me if there is anything that i need to look out for or just look for to see if its about had it. Thank you for all who post on this thread.
Timing chain tensioner - cheap, easy to fix and the new version is very good.
Axle nutts on the rear sometimes need to be replaced and torqued to 220ft pounds - Very cheap. Makes a ticking noise from the rear is how you will know. Remove old nutts, axle grease up the new, torque to 220ft pounds.
Check the oil at MINIUM every two weeks. The pre 2004 models usually burn some oil. Some burn almost none, some burn a quart or so every 1000 miles. This is NORMAL for this car and is not a problem. Some oils reduce this, but there are several s2k's with 150k miles that have been doing this since day one
For the love of god, when you change your diff fluid make sure you use the correct stuff, it is NOT THE STANDARD HONDA DIFF FLUID. The s2k diff uses a 90w. People seem to like 75w90 Mobile 1.
That's all I got.

If you aren't a member you must have them hosted somewhere, then there is an IMG button just above where you type. Click the IMG button and then put the link to where the photo is you want to display.

I had to replace my clutch at about 35,000 miles. Did it myself, and it took around 5 hours. The stock AP1 clutch is really weak. Some people have had to replace theirs before that actually, and some are still on their stock clutch, its all about how you drive it.
i've got almost 136k on my stock clutch
i must baby my car, right? well i get about 10k out of a set of rear tires, so i dunno...
which reminds me; you'll get about 10k out of a set of rear tires, probably 25k or better out of fronts.
my car burns about a half quart every 3k. not too bad.
in 136k, all i've had to replace is a radiator, a driver's side rear axle/hub, convertible top, and TCT. that's pretty low maintenance cost (other than all those damn rear tires.) Did all the work myself.

Ok lets see if i got it all.
90w dif fluid not the 75w90...
Axle nuts...
Timing Chain Tensioner...
Tires....
Oil problems...
Well lets just say i will try to be light on the rear tires. I currently have a rear wheel high hp car so we will see about a smaller car with good amount of hp.
I dont understand how a 2.0 engine can be normal to burn oil. What can i do to prevent this. If i have to i will rip out the engine and rebuild it all to keep from that kind of issue.
Also what is the exact name for the color scheme of yellow ext and blk and yellow interrior? I am not sure if the blk/yellow interrior was a choise stock but from the pics thats the color of it.
The factory spec for hp is 240 but what could be an estimate if a small turbo was added? Just any kind of estimate would be helpful....Last for a stock 2002 S2000 what do they compair to like other cars that are just as fast or that these are faster.
Thanks for all the info you guys....and gals.
