Need some tips on installing my injen CAI .. in my 2002 s2k.. I was wondering wut kind of tools I needed in completing this job? and if I can get some pictures... on where I have too cut....?? .. hope you guys can help me out... this my first time changing a CAI in my own car... thanks..!
dp2580,
I just used a sharp knife to cut the plastic. It's not too difficult to eyeball where you need to cut -- it's on the leading edge at about 2 o'clock once you loosen and peel back the wheel well liner. The picture in the install directions is pretty accurate. I didn't take off the front bumper; just jack up the passenger front side good and high, remove the fasteners in the wheel well and peel it backwards. Slide underneath and remove the fasteners and then the flat plastic belly pan. Then you can see where the intake will need to run up and into the engine bay. To help visualize it, have someone hold the intake in the orientation it will be installed, but to the front of the car. You'll see where it has to go. Remove your stock airbox and vacuum plumbing and either take a picture or draw where the vacuum lines go as it's easy to get them confused after the Injen is in place. Stuff a clean rag or plastic bag in the throttle body to avoid any FOD in there. Once you've made your cuts, stick the TB end of the Injen in through the wheel well and up into the engine bay. It's a lot easier to have someone else help you with this, as it requires some twisting (not bending!) to get it into place. As the install flyer says, leave the plastic sleeve on until you have it in place, as it scratches very easily.
Afterwards, I took a dremel and cut out the plastic intake plate in the bumper to open up a bit more air, but this is optional. Good luck, have fun.
