Installing new rings without honing
Is there anyone here who installed new piston rings without honing the cylinders?
My cylinder walls are ok. It's a lot of miles, though. I'm thinking of installing a new ring. Will this be a disaster plan?

That is the current suggested process. Though I think it includes using a scuff pad on walls first. With soap and water maybe.
Don't quote that, search it. But yeah, no hone.
But you mentioned miles. Are you sure cylinders aren't ovaled?

If I go with my plan, a slight scuff pad (not overdoing it) and a thorough clean should properly seat the new ring.
I don't know at this point. FRM honing is not available here and could be expensive.
Jordan put new rings on a used motor for me a few years back. It worked okay, I was hoping it would have reduced my oil consumption but it didn't help, I had new valve seals done at the same time too. There were no bad results from it, but I didn't get the benefits I was hoping for. Being an Ap1 I suspect ovalized cylinders was the real issue.
