Default Play in Steering Wheel

Good day S2ki,

I just had my Clutch and flywheel changed. Had a local race shop install an SOS and CC flywheel. Picked it up tonight and the clutch feels good, however i noticed right away there is a fairly noticeable play in the steering column. The steering wheel can be moved to the right or left a good amount without the wheels moving.

Can anyone chime in and suggest what may have been done wrong? Ive contacted the race shop that did the install however id like some feedback from some s2000 pros just in case i get the old, "oh it was like that before".

I have the same problem.

Its the steering rod. When installing a clutch the subframe is usually dropped around 3" so the steering column is loosened in the process to avoid breaking or bending of the steering column. It was tightened back up improperly.

Im to lazy to fix mine.

Loosen the top bolt of the steering joint and push up on the joint while re-tightening it, it should remove said free play.

It did, actually took it back to the race shop that did my clutch. He did exactly when the previous people suggested.

I recently changed my clutch and i made sure that the steering coupler was tightened up and fully down onto the steering rack. I had a noticeable knock and some play when driving. I checked everything including the coupler and i couldnt see any signs of play when the wheel was being turned.

I found this post about loosening the bolts and pushing the coupler up and i thought well its worth a go. Loosened the two 10mm bolts, pushed the coupler up (it moved 1mm at the most) and retightened the bolts. I really didnt expect it to make any difference at all but low and behold the steering is perfect now. I guess there is a sweet spot that it likes to sit on the splines and if you miss it the steering feels vague.
