Default Installing trunk spring. (pic)

I've got the trunk spring remover for quite some time already and I finally got the time to install the heavy duty trunk spring that comes with the OEM trunk spoiler.

Here is what I did:

First remove the the clips that holds the spare tire cover and the left trunk side trim panel.

Here is the trunk spring remover

Use the trunk spring remover to take off the trunk spring. Its not that hard to remove the trunk spring with the right tool.

Putting the new spring back on is almost the exact opposite of what you did to remove them. I rest the trunklit on my back when removing and installing the spring.

Job done. Just make sure it works and looks the same as before you began to install the trunk spring

This is one of the easier mod/upgrade to do. If you got the right tool, its almost a no brainer.

In fact, I installed 1 heavy duty trunk spring and 1 regular trunk spring. I found that with both heavy duty trunk spring installed, the trunk pop up too strong when opening all the way. With this set up, I am with the amount of force it pop open the trunk and it's not too strong when opening it all the way.

jon, the tool doesn't come with the car. i ordered the springs from hardtopguy(jeff) and the tool was like 7 bucks. it's invaluable because i don't know how you'd get the new springs on without it.

you could use a cresent wrench to remove the trunk springs, but be careful, it's scarey. You could also use one of those horseshoe looking wrenches to install the trunk springs.

small hook, goes into hinge hole from the top inside part of the hinge. ie: the inside of the bowl if you look at the hinge it looks bowl shaped. so the end of the hook is on the outside of the bowl.

large sq hook is now upside down. put tool upside down on upside down hook.

now rotate tool towards you all the way until big hook does a 180 and open end is pointing down.

now slip it on the hook retainer and make sure it locks in place before you let go.

if you let go to soon, it's gonna hurt.

jeez, it's the same tool as the above pics but without the little V thing. if you can't figure this out from all the pics and info provided, you need to pay the dealer to do this..

oh and Mugen_EP, my A.
