Default Intake.....

Whats up guys...

I know this topic has been beaten to death....but the search isnt giving me what I need...

I want an intake for my car.

1. I do not want to hear a barking noise when I cruise down the road....
2. I DO want to hear a barking noising when im at WOT. (not necessary)
3. I live in NY, with the occasional lake puddles...so I DO NOT want to suck up water

4. I do not want to sell a kidney for an intake
5. I do want power increase....even if it is just on a dyno

Now, opinions....

p.s. How is the comptech intake?

An air duct won't give you any more sound.

The comptech is also a quite system.

Get a JR filter with a snorkel type CAI;AusS2000 used to make them in fiberglass.( best price for the quality)
I heard he does not anymore.
Find an alternative.

PRM has THE best sound, but the filter sucks! I continued to have bogging issues as did Russ. I would with the JR filter and Spoon-type duct (PM Speeeding, he sells the spoon and is good guy to deal with). Other option would be the Comptech....not as loud, good sound at WOT but the filter is +/-. Maybe change it for a K&N. Also, you might want to check out the K&N aircharger. Like the PRM but a better qualit filter.

Well I don't mind talking about intakes, because I think that the stock intake is the one poorly engineered feature on the car (sucks hot air with no airpath), and that a 100% solution has yet to be discovered. Do a search and check out xvipers Radmat to insulate the radiator top and keep some of that hot air out. Shim back the baffle between grill top and radiator brace back a bit to let some air in from the grill right below the intake. Get a K&N or other low restriction filter. Raise the connecting point on the small end of the filter about an inch so its bottom isn't blocked by sitting on the bottom of the airbox.

If you want more, remove the divider in the airbox, and run a flex 3" pipe from the pax side of the air box to the squarish hole in the pax side of the engine compartment divider to get an additional intake source.

I have done these things, and find NO additional noise, and better pre VTEC throttle response and mileage. Best part? The whole thing cost next to nothing.

Hope this helps,
Richard

Something to consider BEFORE you purchase an intake or any other performance upgrade for your S2000.....................The s2000 was designed so well, that adding the wrong part, no matter what the reputation of the manufacturer is, may LOSE you horsepower instead of gaining any. And as a rule of thumb..............most "good" aftermarket parts usually only add 2-5hp gains instead of the 40 or 50 some people claim on other makes and mosels of cars. BE CAREFUL when choosing........................and good luck!

I read awhile ago that AEM was developing a V2 Cold Air intake. Someone on this board lend there car to them, i can't remember who it was... But, if you decide to get one you could wait until it comes out cuz i hear it's going to be good. Probably by the time it does comes out, you'll have a lot more money save up for it, and end up deciding to get something else. Hope you not indecisive. =) So far i've been happy with my AEM.
