I hope that the next generation AEM doesn't present the hydrolocking problems reported as the the first generation. And the bypass valve that was said to be the solution robbed the CAI of it's effectiveness. I much prefer the PRM and Comptech approach of drawing air out of the pax side fender well hole --- which my home made solution also does.

Thanks,
Richard

The AEM v2 will still have it's water problems as with the v1. Filter will still be low so it can be labled as cold air.

About PRM:

I looked at that option too, and it sure looks great! But if you notice the actual engineering, the PRM only points an intake horn at the hole in the pax side fender well, and doesn't connect with it.

So I called PRM for an explanation, and was told that this unit was primarily designed to get better acceleration in the VTEC range, and not below. Makes sense, as in this range the intake suction would be great enough to pull in air from this hole.

But acceleration in the post-VTEC range was not my problem. I was well satisfied with that. I'm not a serious competition driver, and was mainly concerned with being able to launch at lower rpm (don't like to replace clutches), and have a better post launch pull. At lower rpm's the car felt a little "strangled" like my old RX 7 did when I drove her to the Rocky Mountains. My home made mods described above were aimed at this situation, and for it they seem to work well indeed by increasing the volume of cooler air available to the intake at lower rpms, before the intake really begins sucking!

A previous poster above is correct that intake mods won't add much hp or torque per dyno. Maybe you don't really want to add much, as "Road & Track" tech writers said the drivetrain won't hold up to much more (look at all the drivetrain trouble posts, with and without any mods). All my simple $25 mods did was to make my car more pleasant to drive around town, and that's all I wanted them for.

Thanks,
Richard
