Default Intake Piping

Just wondering why all the intakes seem to run to the passenger side of the car and not to the drivers side. I know for some of the intakes like Comptech they require that open area for the intake on the passenger side but for some of the CAI's like AEM, Injen etc that use the faux ducts they could use the drivers side area and reduce pipe length maybe get a few pnies more out? Or were the intakes more responsive to the longer piping even when compared to the drivers side, or was the drivers side even thought of in the equation?

Theres limited space on the drivers side because of the smog pump. I agree with your line of thinking though.

Could the smog pump be relocated? If so how much of a PITA would it be?? Just theoritcally guessing, I would think it would be more work than most would want to do?
