Hi all. I love the racy sound of my S, but am looking for an intake that gives a throatier sound; louder than the stock airbox. I have narrowed it down to PRM or the new K&N aircharger kit. (I don't want an aem or injen.) Could someone tell me which of the two sounds meaner?? thanks!

 

Purely subjective. They probably both sound nearly the same since their filters are above the radiator unlike the AEM and INJEN. You won't be unhappy with either choice.

 

I haven't heard either of them, but I would expect that they would have drastically different sound characteristics. I bet that the K&N unit would sound about like the stock air box without the cover on it. The PRM has it's filter inside the canister with the horn on the end. I have no idea what that would sound like.

 

I can only tell about the k/n ...it's a little bit louder than the OEM intake without the cover.
Deep sound when WOT.

 

Does it sound the same, just louder? I pulled the top off of my air box once, and it sounded deep too.

I just Drove 850's S2000 with the K&N Air Charger installed. I'll tell you that if you know what a stock air box with no top sounds like, take that and multiply it by 120%. It's loud, Deep and Throaty! Sounds like a Synthisized Harley & F1 mixed together. You only get the sound with WOT, just like Stock with top off.

 

So it's just 20% louder than stock? That's not that big of a deal then.

 

Sound of Stock (without Cover) x 2.2 = Sound of K&N Aircharger (Approx.) Sorry I don't have the Db Rating
