Default Intermittent VTEC "Wall" / CEL Flash

I have an AP1 with a strange issue that recently started. The car is stock with 93,000 miles.

I have been having on and off issues with VTEC enagement. When I accelerate and VTEC begins to engage the car hits a "wall". The CEL flashes on when this happens and immediately goes away when you release the gas pedal. It leaves no stored codes for me to read.

It is the exact same feeling if you were to try and engage VTEC before the temp gauge is at 3 bars.

I cannot pinpoint what is causing this issue. Oil is freshly changed and topped off at 5 quarts. I've cleaned both VTEC solenoid screens and tested the VTEC solenoid. I've also replaced the VTEC oil pressure sensor with a new OEM unit.

This issue still occurs intermittently. Sometimes VTEC will work fine for hours and then all of a sudden stop working properly. Other times it will have issues as soon as I pull it out of the garage and then begin functioning normally.

Any ideas?

Intermittent issues are the worst, you could check all the connectors within the Vtec readiness system to make sure you have clean connections. One connector that has intermittent continuity will cause your issue, could be the oil pressure sensor on the solenoid or even the solenoid itself or anything else that has to satisfy the ECU for Vtec to work. Wishing you luck on this.

Unfortunately after tracing everything I still cannot pinpoint the issue. I am going to replace the VTEC solenoid and start with that.
