Just did a compression test. Forgot to go WOT.
OK well just got in from doing a compression test since I am getting my car tuned tomorrow. I did the test but completely forgot the step of going WOT. Disconnected the fuel pump fuse and cranked the engine 8 times or so. Each cylinder leveled at 200 psi. Maybe 199 or 198 in one or 2 but really even. I know that is low, but I did not even press the gas when doing it. Are those numbers still showing that is is consistent across the board? Or would those numbers just be useless? The car was warmed up to 3 bars before doing the test.
I would go do it again right now, but my battery is really tired and had to have a friend jumping it the whole time so it would crank well.
What do you think? Showing a healthy engine most likely? I know consistency is the most important thing, and not going WOT I'm sure kept the compression down.
I used a KD-Tools compression tester.

Typically w/compression test you are looking for consistency. The best way to test cylinder integretity is a leakdown test, but this requires a compressor and a more expensive tool.
For the diy'r a compressio tester can be had cheaply and will give you a good indication of any potential problems.
For your readings to be more accurate, WOT is preferred, but if they are all w/in 10% I wouldn't worry.

My old car had the dipstick problem (popping up in vtec). Honda rebuilt it and extended the warranty. I went in for a compression test about 6000 miles later and it put up 200 across the board, they too said it was consistency that you are looking for. I was uneasy with the low numbers so I dynoed it to ensure it was making power. Thing was a factory freak. High dyno numbers.
Alright well I guess my engine is in good condition. Got just over 227 whp with a Spugen dual oval exhaust, K&N FIPK, and a vafc1 tune. Stock cat is still on the car. Feels really nice now. Pulls better up top. Real smooth. Dropped vtec crossover to 5500 rpm's. Might pick up a high flow cat since I hate the raspiness I got from having the test pipe on the car. Would get it re tuned with a high flow cat and maybe a Megan Racing header or something for another 10whp or so hopefully.
I have gears that will be here hopefully next week also. Some 4.77 from hardtopguy. Should make for a super fun combo.
I will try to scan in the dyno graph if I can. I got it dynoed by Adam (mines13) at Performance Motorsports in Smithtown, Long Island. Great place and great tuner!!
