I have an ACT clutch. No "chinging" sound that I can think of. Just a slight rattle from the Spoon flywheel sometimes if the A/C is on and I'm too light on the gas.

Maybe if you were more specific about when the sound occurs I could help more. In gear with the clutch in or out?

JWS626: given that you're local, any suggestions for a clutch installer (and a calibration of the labor cost)? I'm going to need to upgrade -- the stock clutch just can't handle the turbo -- and I'm thinking about the Clutchmaster Stage 3 plus a Spoon or Toda flywheel.

Gagelane: sorry that you're not getting more help. I'm afraid I can't be of any help, either, but I wish you luck.

anyone know why the clutch rattles when the A/C is on (if it is the clutch thats making the noise). my friend's GSR does the same thing. he has a clutchmasters aluminum flywheel and when is A/C is on at a stop light, the rattling is loud and can be easily heard from even 10-20 ft from the car... maybe its normal with lighter flywheels..

Does the rattle go away if he revs the engine up a couple hundred RPMs?

If you had a lightweight flywheel, Gage, I might say the "chinging" was just normal flywheel rattle. As it is, I just know that I don't have it, but I have no idea what it could be. Sorry.

C. Bender, I got mine done as part of a TSB. Herson's didn't charge me a dime. They even gave me a free release bearing ($80 or so). With regards to independents, everybody I've talked to loves Curry's in Va. for service.

If I needed anything done I would go to Altered Atmosphere in Gaithersburg since I know 1000hp Supras and 3000GTs come out of there and the owner is a friend of mine. I've seen complaints from people on this board about them, but Mike is a really good guy and definitely knows what he's doing.

If I can find the invoice from Herson's (which I filed away somewhere ) I'll see if it has the total labor in hours or cost on it.

On the Spoon flywheel, I'm really happy with it and a got a great deal on it from 4IGS2000. I hear a lot of good things about the Toda too, so I guess whatever you can get a better deal on and is in stock would work for you.

Lightweight flywheel rattle is normal and comes from crankshaft vibration. That's part of the reason that the heavier flywheel is used in the first place. It's louder with the A/C on since the A/C operates on a pulley that runs of the crank pulley.

I experience the Rattle from my spoon flywheel also. It rarely rattles though.

Anyhow, you should take your car back to where you installed the act clutch and have them take a look at it.

I just had the ACT clutch with street disk installed.
I retained the stock flywheel. I haven't noticed any unusual sounds.
