Default Just installed a new convertible top

Just installed the 4th convertible top in 10 years due to the wear holes forming on these tops. I read somewhere that if you cover the plastic guards on the side, this will prevent the holes from forming. I covered them with some of the old top material but it seems as though you can see the indentation from the outside. Is there any issue just cutting those plastic pieces from the inside?

Thanks

Hi, I haven't done what you enquire about, but I've heard around here that people will cut/sand/deburr the edges in a specific way (before the kink, maybe?) in order to relieve stress on the top. Some have done it with no issues, some with minimal.

I've had the top replaced once due to the wear holes. My solution was a modification of a diy I found around here.

I bought some vinyl siding (>$10) from Home Depot and cut it to a length that extends over the latches, the first, second, and third bar (most common wear spots). I do have to slightly adjust it back into place whenever I close the top, but that doesn't bother me. You will see a slight indentation from the outside (>1/8 inch), but to the general public, it looks factory .

I also suggest buying a Raggtopp care kit and Modifry straps (if you don't have them already).

Since the preventative wear mod, I'm top down all day/night. After 6 months, no signs of wear.

Hope this helps.

peace

Is there anyway you could post some pictures of your fix? Id really like to see and fix the problem on my top before the holes start to form
