Default k&n fipk install

I've read the instructions, and have seen the technical FAQ thread on this install, but I'm still running into a problem.

(step 22) The edge trim on the heat shield -- man, I just can't make it go around some of those corners. Am I supposed to cut it for each straight section? Currently I am just trying to bend it around the whole heat shield in one piece. Those 90 degree turns are a bitch too.

Please help!

I cut the rubber stuff into straight slits. No way can you bend them around the edges.

Anyone else cut the edge trim? I think I'll go ahead and do that too then.

I bent it around every corner. It took me awhile and I had to use a screw driver, but I did it. Certainly not the best design, but definitely possible.

also helps to heat up the the rubber gasket as you try to bend it to fit..total PITA but can be done.

My first attenot was bad. I could not just bend it around the corner. It kept coming off
I got pissed and ripped the hole f-ing thing off. You can see the front leading edge rubber came off the black monding. Not to search and find 2 feet of new stuff

I cut little 45deg opening in the turns, worked fine
only photo I had

guys, i was doing some research as far as getting an intake. I decided not to go with a cold air, although i loved the sound. I was going to then go with a k & n drop in but just NOW found out about what you guys have, the fipk. How does it perform and sound? I found this link here that claims it added 9whp to a stock 2000 s2. Is that possible??
