I believe i broke the knock sensor changing the clutch. The car worked perfectly but a CEL was on with the code for a bad knock sensor. Then, after about 100 miles of driving, the car turned off completely....it shut off all of a sudden. The car would not start. The window wouldnt even close, like the electrical system was messed up. I jacked the car up, wiggled every sensor I could find, and DISCONNECTED the BATTERY. The car started this time!! There was no CEL. I drove for a couple miles and the CEL came back on. Perhaps, disconnecting the battery reset the ecu, which gave me enough time to start the car? Or I somehow wiggled the knock sensor better into place? I have no idea. AND finally, does anyone know where exactly the knock sensor is located? Thanks for the help!

 

It is common to forget to torque down the knock sensor after changing the clutch. Here is the thread I used to find mine.

Yeah, I've done more the one clutch and never touched the knock sensor.

 

because the knock sensor is very sensitive, and therefore should be torqued down to manufacture specs or it wont function properly or may not even function at all.

 

At what mileages intervals does the factory maintenance schedule recommend to torque the knock sensor?

Because you only touch it while changing the clutch if you screw up: I hear that accidentally breaking the knock sensor while removing the top starter bolt is not uncommon, but you don't intentionally touch the knock sensor when changing the clutch.
