Default Long road trip - Prep the S2K

Need some advice on what to check prior to a 2,000 mile trip. I have a bit of a list myself to do to the car before going on the trip. So as of now I need or am replacing;
  • Both rear bearings and hubs + alignment
  • Clutch Kit (OEM)
  • Transmission oil
  • Differential oil
  • Coolant flush
  • Valve-adjustment + Spark Plugs
  • Tires
  • Brakes (Pads and Rotors)

Anything related to those or anything additional you may recommend checking/replacing would be great.

If your car is in good working order, there is no need for all these fixes and/or unless the mileage will push you into them or they need replacing.

There isn't much more then checking of the oil level and tire psi that I do before a short trip like that.

But I would definitely get your alignment check out. Also the valve adjustment wouldn't hurt either...

What is more important is what you bring with you. just to name a few;

Extra oil
Flashlight
A few tools
A pocket knife (very useful IMO)
Some water
Towel

You didn't tell us what your mileage is or how you have maintained your car. If you change the oil every 3-4 K miles along with the oil filter and you have less than 100K miles you should be able to just change the oil & filter check the fluid levels and go...

I do a lot of traveling on business and many of my weekly round trips are over 1000 miles. I've been doing this for years without any problems. Highway miles are very easy on your car. I check oil level and tire pressure before each trip, and I check coolant tank level occasionally. Things I make sure I bring with me:
  • Small cooler with a reusable ice pack for drinks
  • Cell Phone car charger and bluetooth earpiece
  • Flashlight
  • extra quart of oil
  • a few paper towels & a cloth towel for cleaning spills, cleaning windows, checking oil, etc.
  • Garmin for navigation (comes in handy for detours).

If you have a hardtop, make sure you have plenty Shin-Etsu grease on the rubber seals. There's nothing more annoying than a squeaky top on a very long trip.

Its a 00' with an 04 F22, engine wise its at 80K and chassis is 150k. So far I have driven the car 1,000 miles and it has not burnt any oil. Checked frequently too. As for what the others said, those replacements are pretty much needed. I do need the clutch kit, brakes & pads, bearings and what not. The fluids are something for piece of mind.

There's some variation based on driving conditions and style but I find 30 pretty easy for 100% highway with my S. Don't overlook the countless MPG threads.

If you are traveling through relatively flat roads, use cruise control set to about 70. From what I could tell, I got my best fuel mileage around that speed.
