I live in Texarkana. I don't know the car. I've seen it for sale in Facebook posts & Craigslist. It's been for sale for a month or so now. I bet if you try hard enough, he'd come off another thousand.
I really like the tan interior in that car. From the pics it looks good.

If you'd like I can go check it out one day & give you an in person report. I think one of the guys at our local Honda dealer has/had a s2000. He may be on here but I'm not sure of his username.

I think the more critical question is, how does an engine replacement affect the market value.

i would say it depends on the details, but generally the value should suffer a small penalty for having the engine replaced.

@kwakhead that would be great if you don't mind heading over to check it out. i would pay for the compression test if you've got the time to take it to a Honda shop. i'm supposed to do a FaceTime session with the owner's husband today just to get an overview to see if it's worth my time to drive 3hrs to look it over. please let me know if you're available to look at it for me. otherwise, i'm heading to Houston this weekend to check out a couple of other S2000's. don't mean to rush you or anything...hahaha! if you're not available, no worries. i appreciate it!

@Apex1.0 i'm not really worried about resale value. i don't plan on reselling. the S2000 is a classic in my opinion. if i were better off, i would get something like a NSX, Supra, Lotus, Porsche 911 Turbo or my dream car...'56 Jaguar XK140 or a '67 Shelby Cobra, but realistically, i'm a simple guy. those other cars would be nice to have, but they're not daily drivers. and to have such a nice car to keep in the garage is just a waste of money and space.

If that's the case, if it runs good and the work was done well, I would not hesitate. How do you know if the work was done well? All about the details. Look over the engine compartment very closely. Nothing should hint the engine was changed. Compare it to a detailed picture of a new s2k. No clip, ziptie, loom or harness should be out of place.

Value is what you can sell it for. Car is high mileage and has replacement engine. Who besides you wants to buy it? The longer it stays advertised is an indication it's overpriced for what it is. Did I miss the asking price? As a buyer an AP1 with this many miles I'd expect to be closer to $10k than $15K assuming it has the original engine. Engine from a wrecked car makes lowers that number.

Too many good condition, original cars remain for me to drive to look at this car unless it was priced well below $10K.

Right now he's advertising it for $11,500. Last month I believe he was asking 12,500 or 13.

There's not huge interest in these cars in our area. It'll sit for sale until the price gets even lower or someone travels to come get it.

Opinion ----> Not with 100K miles and the engine from a wrecked car! <----- Opinion

The original asking price was $13999 back last month. They've since lowered it to $11800 or something like that. They reported that the car itself has about 105k miles and the new engine has about 58k miles and work done by a certified Honda mechanic. Would I also have to worry about the transmission or any other mechanical component after the engine swap? I think they said it was a full engine swap and not an engine rebuild. I'm starting to think this car may be too much trouble for what it's worth.

I did get a chance to Facetime with the owner yesterday. From what I could tell, the engine bay and engine looked clean, of course picture quality and sound did suffer a bit. They started up the car and the engine seem to idle nicely. There were no tears in the top that I could see and the interior looked well maintained. It's owned by an older couple and doesn't look to be abused or modified from the video. I would need to take a closer look and have a mechanic friend come with me to check the internals out.

@kwakhed, do you think you can be available to take a look at the car for me? We could work something out for your time. Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Yeah if you'd like I could go take a look at it. It would be a few days or even next weekend before I'm free.
