Lost Compression in Cyl #2 !
I have a MY04 with 52,000 miles. Single owner and it's pretty well maintained. I took it in for smog check and oil change and just coincidentally the CEL light came on, so I had them check it out. The car seemed to be running fine, so I hoped it was something minor.
It was giving a code for the fuel system(?). Turns out I had one fouled plug. So I had them all changed, it was time. They ran a compression test and #2 is way off -- 250-45-275-270 are the compression numbers (cyl 1-2-3-4). Hard to believe!
They asked if it had ever overheated, and I said nope. They are running a leak-down and some further tests to get a better idea of where the issue is. Head gasket is one possibility as I've seen here. Burned valves, valve adjustment, rings are some others I suppose. None of it good.
I last had the valves adjusted at 30,000; could a valve adjust make that big a difference? Anyone have a good guess as to which problem is most likely?

I run into this issue on S2000s everyday. Please feel free to call me should you need any advice. Thank you.
