SS rusts too fyi. Obviously, it takes longer and is more resistant than other metals.

New hobby is restoring vintage tools and hand-tool woodworking. So, I sometimes study metals, coatings, etc. and their characteristics.

It depends on the exact alloy, but yes, some "Stainless steels" can corode. But this is a controversical topic....

I found rust speckles at the sprocket wich drives the generator inside the Engine of my old, trusty Suzuki GSXR 1100.
No wonder Suzuki wrote in the owners manual that you should fill up the engine complety with engine oil for Storage(!). But wich owner reads this and follws this "Weird" instruction?

So I went to do a compression test and leak down test. The leak down tester I got was not working properly. The compression numbers were as follows:
122
130
110
130
The Guage reads low but what is important in my opinion is that the numbers are consistent. Whoever did the compression test last time probably didn't do it correctly. Im gonna try to do a leak down test this weekend and a 2nd test with oil in the cylinders.

This is a very good point.

Just do a dry leakdown test with a good tester.

I got mine for like $100...instead if using a rented one from a parts store, so I know it hasn't been kicked off of a building.

Yeah, those values are kinda low. Hopefully, the leakdown test results are better.

I think the chain might have gotten damaged by salt water causing the timing to jump. Coming from the exhaust
