Anyone ever heard of this..
purchased a 2002 ap1 with 101k and a new head on it. The timing looked like it was a tooth off and the valves seemed loud. After an adjustment the noise was still lous so i did compression test (all 220-230) and then leakdown showed the same no major leak. I took cams out and found that the lost motion assembly on the exhaust side were longer than the intake by like 1/4 of an inch. Was wondering if anyone even knows how this is possible. I ordered the right ones to put in (longer) and am in the process of putting new retainers in.
Whoever rebuilt the engine previously must have lost the original ones and swapped whatever they could find in. It's best that you ordered brand new ones to drop in there.
So little update i replaces the lost motion assembly on the intake side so all are the same size. I replaced all the retainers and keepers to ap2 style so I never have to worry about that again. Few pictures attached. I just have to adjust the valves and put the valve cover back on and i will see if it solved the problem.... Did some with compressed air and then some with nylon rope Cheap parts store tool worked fine Layed out all old ap1 junk
