Default Lost power to drivetrain

Hey guys I'm on my way to Langley from Ga and lost all power to the wheels.

I was driving along in 6th at 60mph and had to nail the brakes as another car pulled into my lane. The car remained in gear. When I got my foot back on the accelerator the revs jumped but no forward momentum. I pulled out of 6th and double clutched into 3rd, revs jump las if in neutral.

I made my way over onto the shoulder and tried all gears. No forward momentum. All I get is a sound of wheezing from the drivetrain. Reminiscent of WRC gearboxes wheezing to death but not as pronounced. No leaks.

2000MY stock drivetrain 62k, fluids changed every 5k. No burnouts, no launches, no drag strip action.

I can't tell whether its the clutch, gearbox, or differential. I have all spares other then the diff.

Billman? Haha, guys all info is welcome. I need some speculations to think of on this 350 mile toe.

V/R,

-Miko

Sounds like the clutch went bad...everything else is a direct mechanical linkage and you would've heard metal bits grinding about if it was your tranny or diff.

I do hear a whining/wheezing from the drivetrain, just can't tell where. Why would anything break from hitting the brakes is what puzzles me, especially at 62k

Did you lock up wheels under panic braking before disengaging the clutch ?, that could break something.

I used maybe half the brake force available for a split second, the wheels didn't lock up, there was no drama from any other components other than the drivetrain

Like I said, sounds like your clutch went out. If you hear whirring and the RPMS just climb with throttle, there is no power transfer between your engine and transmission. The shifter in the S2000 is mechanical unlike most other cars, so if you can go into each gear it's highly unlikely that there is anything wrong other than the clutch.

That's what I'm thinking too. AP2 Trans will be going in next week along with a AP2 PP, fidanza flywheel and F1 clutch disc. It's just odd how it happened, and at 62k as well. Hmm
