Default Loud Stock Fuel Pump

Recently my stock fuel pump in my unmodified 2002 S2000 w/118k miles on it has gotten quite loud. The whining from the pump can be heard prominently in the cabin of the car. Does that mean it is about to fail?

It looks like a local shop is charging 2 hours of labor for the install, is that the normal time charged?

Thanks!

2 hours at at least $100/hour?

Might take 2 hours to remove 4 bolts and remove the pump and replace with a new one. If you can change your oil (or replace a light switch at home) you can do this easily. Your labor is free. Pump is darn near plug-n-play. Maybe replace the fuel filter sock at the same time.

I don't thin I'd call it plug n play. Its buried in trunk where you can't see, with super sharp metal edges that are just waiting to slice up your fingers.

A small amount of fas is going to spill too.

Its also not fun to remove fuel filler neck.

Remove the filler neck?

I thought I saw the pump replaced thru the trunk -- but maybe I dreamed this (happened before ). Regardless it's unbolt, swap the pump, and bolt back in.

Yes, through the trunk. Bent over, reaching into tight space.

Pump in tank. So first need to remove hatch where pump and filler neck enter tank. Which means remove filler neck.

I thought the pump and filter entered via separate ports. Normally I could just walk down to my office and look but anyone got a photo? I'm 8 days away.

You're right. Separate ports. So no need to mess with filler neck.

But still not an easy diy simply due to what it takes to get to the cover, and those sharp edges once you get there.
