Default low speed creaking from rear

I just posted at the end of this thread - https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...&f=22&t=394805 - but decided I may have better luck starting a new thread. if that makes this a duplicate, sorry.

anyway...anyone know what could be causing loud low speed creaking from the rear? it happens whenever the car starts to roll/move (backward or forward), as well as over low-speed bumps, dips, etc.

it only happens when the car is moving, can't replicate it at a standstill (i.e. pushing down on the car, etc).

shocks are fine (KW V3), alignment is fine. it's not the hub nut popping and clicking (had that before, know what it sounds like). nothing visually looks bent, loose or otherwise out of whack.

axles? diff? (yikes) cv joints? anything i should look at? any advice?

thanks!

I have a similar symptom from a stop, but not everytime, more seldom than yours. Bump.

just a quick update...i had it at the dealer two days ago, and asked them again to look over anything in the rear that could be causing this (including the damn hub nuts, just to be 100% sure).

they said they couldn't replicate the issue, but found the tie-rod ends were slightly loose. they tightened them, and "greased and torqued" the rest of the suspension.

anyway...driving off, the car felt as quiet and smooth as a brand-new car, not a creak to be heard.

THIS MORNING...it's back with a vengeance. starting from a standstill, either forward or reverse (more in reverse, actually), major creaking/clicking...

what the hell is making noise back there? since it only happens when the car is in motion, i don't think it's suspension, i'd guess axles/hubs/bearings/CVs/etc.

i'm just afraid it's the diff or something else expensive, but i tend to worry unnecessarily! what are the odds that the diff has a problem?

any ideas or advice? do you think it went quiet solely because the right thing was greased, and it had nothing to do with the tie-rods?

Mine is doing the exact same thing. I've looked it over a time or two but can't seem to find anything obvious wrong.

hey, just checkin in sayin i think i have the same problem. I haven't actually looked at anything yet, but I did notice that it significantly diminished its occurance when i adjust the height of my coilovers (lowered). Could it possibly have to do with the inner cv joints in the rear? just not so worn to give vibrations?

Check out this thread. I too have had this problem and have tried replacing both Axle nuts twice with proper 220 ft/lb torque measurements.

its the axle nuts, this just happened to me on both sides, the nuts have been loose and you didnt know it and it destroyed the wheel bearing and the hub... its tough to know if the axle nuts are really tight or not cause once this happens the bearing slips out a little and gets lodged in a position where it tightens down incorrectly

took mine to the dealership too and they tightened it as well and it went away for about 2 hours, finally took it to a reputable shop that works on s2000s alot and the bearing fell apart when they removed it, the inside of the hub was so grinded and out of round i had to buy 2 good condition ones from the junkyard... cost me over a grand

btw... this all started out as the little clicking noise and i didnt know what it was so i ignored it... honda knows about this but wont make it a recall....
