Maintenance needed for a S2000 with 77k miles?
So, I've never owned an S2000 and I was wondering what it compared like towards other cars for the severe maintenance. I here of people changing their fluids every 3-4k miles and I'm fine with that, but I was more looking along the lines of the big checkups.
I know some cars need a tune-up around 70k miles, others around 100k miles. I am buying a used s2000 with anywhere from 50-100k miles on it and I was just curious on what to expect if I bought one with say 77k miles on it, would I immediately have to do the tune-up or could I last a year or two without it.

Not sure what year you have, but if it is an AP1, make sure you check the oil frequently.
It might be about time for a valve adjustment if the previous owner didn't do one already. I've found it is good to do one every 30-40k miles.
Plugs wouldn't be a bad thing. Make sure you get the OEM NGK Platinum Lasers.
Otherwise, change the tranny oil every year and the diff oil every other year and you're good to go.

I personally would make it a habit to change your differential fluid annually. The service schedule calls for really long change intervals but it seems that s2k owners break their diff more than anything else and for the cost of changing it ($20, if that), you also get to see what comes out of the drain hole... ie.. metal shavings chunks, etc.
My tranny fluid gets changed whenever the shifter begins to feel clicky.

Sounds good, it's an AP1 as for an update. Would I be needing to get it tuned up if the previous owner hasn't? Or can I just focus on those individual things like a valve adjustment and fluids. Plugs are easy to.

You never know what the hell the previous owner(s) could have done to that car.
He could have been a master tech for Honda and given it the utmost attention..
OR it could be some numb nut who doesn't know a thing and neglected the car to no end...
Basically what i am saying is you can never be to safe.
The first week of buying my AP2 i changed all the fluids and adjusted valves to spec.. so far so good!! no problems yet..

Change the fluids, always watch the oil levels, new plugs and valve adjustment and you should be good as long as there are no known issues.
The biggest thing as mentioned before is to always watch the oil level as this car burns oil a decent amount and if not checked you can blow your engine.

All right thanks for the update and information. I drive a '95 prelude right now and realize about oil, I usually change mine like every 2k miles so I'll be sure to keep an eye on it, thanks!

It's a Honda so you could probably just buy it, never change the oil, and drive it forever.
But, preventative maintenance wise I'd say the stuff you'd be looking at is plugs and valve adjustment. You could do both of these in your garage in an afternoon.
The fluids are just basic car stuff no different than any other car with an engine and transmission. This is a great, reliable car. Buy one and drive...a lot, you'll love it.
