Default Maintenance Required flashing

I just noticed that my maintenance required light was flashing 10 times, anyone know what that flash code means. I am not scheduled for a oil change for another 1,000 miles and i know i need to get the brakes done.

Thanks,
tom

Whenever it flashes 10 times,it means, that it's time to read the owner manual.!!!

Reading the manual is good advice. The flashing light usually means that you need to take it in for an oil change and inspection. Remember that the car doesn't know when you last did your oil change, so it just guesses based on driving habits etc.

I don't think it's really guessing, I think it's strictly based on the odometer reading and the most commonly used maintenance routine.

It flashes shortly before you hit the maintenance intervals and then goes solid when you pass it regardless of driving habits or climate conditions (maintenance intervals vary depending on climate).

Obviously i need to go into the shop
It's ONLY obvious to those who don't understand what that light is for. And NO, you don't necessarily have to go into the shop.

The flashing light usually means that you need to take it in for an oil change and inspection. Remember that the car doesn't know when you last did your oil change, so it just guesses based on driving habits etc.
That light comes on based on the fact that about 6000 miles before it started to flash, it was reset. You do your maintenance and servicing based on your "records" of when you did it last and when you need to do it next. If it happens to coincide with the blinky light, then fine. It doesn't necessarily mean this. Most people don't do maintenance on the "normal" schedule anyway (which is what the light is based on). Most of us will have at least one condition of the "severe" schedule satisfied, in which case, we don't use that blinky light for any purpose whatsoever.

I guess the point that x and I (and others) were making is why take it to Honda?

Perform your maintenace for your odo interval (changing you oil is pretty easy) and reset the counter for the blinky light.

I can't recall off-hand exactly which button it is, trip? hold it down with the ignition off, turn the ignition on while still holding it down, it'sll blink and then shut off, turn the ignition off and then back on and presto, it's reset.

Something like that, I may be off.

Tom,

Tomorrow may be too late. I would tow it up there tonight so they can get to that oil change first thing in the morning.
