[QUOTE=MacGyver,May 27 2004, 05:20 AM]MY filter has never been of the oiled type, but I've had to whack the MAP on a couple of occasions (72k+ miles).

Also, please be careful about using sandpaper on the connectors.

Wouldn't a MAP issue be observable by logging the MAP signal? I assume it is stick at certain points and this condition would be observable as a flat spot on a log. Anyone look into this?

Yes you can log the MAP output, as long as you have some type of scan tool. I've only seen very few MAP sensors have erratic readings, the one's I've seen fail would read higher than atmotspheric pressure, or above 2.9V.

So all you really need is a multimeter and someone in the passenger seat.

I wonder what alternatives are available. If they have the same voltage range and ramp then they should be a direct electrical replacement. If not, some simple circuitry should bring them into line.

You could watch it with an analog meter, A DVOM would be searching for accuracy to much. The hard part would be driving, and remembering where the Throttle is, versus your Map readings. The Map V's are constantly changing when driving as throttle position and engine load change.

A VAFC can plot the MAP signal against throttle position and even record a log of the values.

That's what I get for not using a VAFC with a SC.
