Default Mechanix gloves - how are they?

and where to get them. I'm so tired of looking like I've played catch with razor blades just about every time I spend time under the hood I've got to try something. Anyone use these, how do they work for you and where do you pick them up cheapest?

Thanks!

I love them. Outside of the fact they aren't fluid proof, they work great. They fit tight enough if you size them properly that you can work on relatively complex tasks, or handle small items. I still use surgical gloves for really small stuff, but that's more to keep the dirt and chemicals off my skin vs. abrasion resistance. The Mechanix gloves are also pretty heat resistant. I've picked up a hot, cast iron exhaust manifold without burning myself, although I could feel the heat begin to penetrate after a few seconds.

I used to buy mine from Summit Racing (catalog or online). They're labeled Summit, but they're made my Mechanix. I've recently found that my local motorcycle shop also carries them, so when I need my next set I'll probably go there.

Depending on what I get into, they usually last me 6-12 months.

Sweet, thanks! I, too, use latex gloves for oil changes - but this weekend I was messing around with putting that radiator shield of reflectix on and taking the plastic AC air guide out and cut the hell out of my hands. I ginsu'd a 1/2" gash in the "webbing" between my index and middle fingers on that damn heat shield by the battery that was so clean it didn't even bleed right away. But MAN did it bleed once it got going. That was the final straw.

Costco just started carrying them. Mechanix brand, I think it was two pairs for $30.

I've never used them before. I usually go bare-handed or latex gloves. The latex work great for a while, but then they get really sweaty on the inside and drive me crazy... Great for really messy jobs though.

They are great. Had to borrow a pair at the track last time.. the only way to fool with hot brakes.
